A meeting of the Parliamentary Advisory Committee to the Union Home Ministry on the topic of ‘Cyber Security and Cyber Crime’ was held in the capital Delhi yesterday.

Presiding over the meeting, senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah said,

As per the recommendations of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, 805 mobile phone apps and 3,266 websites have been blocked for national security reasons.

Also, more than 19 lakh fake bank accounts used for illegal money transfers were detected and transactions worth Rs 2,038 crore were blocked.

Efforts are underway to use AI technology to identify fake bank accounts in coordination with the Reserve Bank and all banks. A special team is also being set up for this.

Our country’s digital infrastructure is expanding. With this, the number of cyber crimes is naturally increasing.

These problems cannot be solved until we consider controlling cyber crime through ‘software, services and users’.

In the last 10 years, our country has witnessed a ‘digital revolution’. Currently, 95 percent of the villages in the country are digitally connected; one lakh gram panchayats are equipped with ‘Wi-Fi’ hotspot facilities.
