With the aim of developing human resources in various fields of plastics engineering and technology, ‘CIPET’ was established in Chennai in 1968 by the Government of India with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme.

Originally known as the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, it was renamed as the ‘Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology’ a few years ago. ‘CIPET’ is the premier educational institution for higher and technical education under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India

Duration of Study: 4 years
Eligibility: Must have passed 12th standard with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as main subjects with at least 45% marks. For admission to Chennai campus, only those who have scored moderately good marks can be selected through the DNEA counselling conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
